GREENSBORO (WFMY) - The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is now to kids in all of Guilford County!
The library is a book gifting program that mails free books to children from birth until they start school in effort to build their home libraries.
All zip codes in the county are now eligible for enrollment in the Library. A community-wide celebration is planned for Friday, July 20 at the Greensboro Children’s Museum from 5 to 8 p.m. Any age-eligible child (and their family members) that enrolls in the Dolly Parton Library that night will receive free admission to the Greensboro Children’s Museum, their first Dolly Parton Library Book and a bag to carry it home in.
The library launched in four zip codes in March. Currently, more than 1,300 kids in Guilford County are getting books from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
In Sept. 2017, the Partnership for Children of Guilford County was awarded a $10,000 per year grant award for the next two fiscal years to support expanding into Guilford County. In January, Parents as Teachers Guilford County was selected to implement the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
If you can't attend the celebration, then you can enroll at www.patgc.org. 'Smart Start of Forsyth County' announced they would start using Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in December.
Parton launched her Imagination Library in 1995 to benefit the children of her home county in East Tennessee.
