Urban Loop Work Causing Unexpected Traffic in Greensboro Neighborhoods

A road closure as part of the Urban Loop project is causing heavy traffic in some Greensboro neighborhoods.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WFMY)-- Once completed, the 44-mile Urban Loop will make it easier for easier for folks to get from one side of the city to the other.

Right now, the project construction is sending drivers into what used to be quiet neighborhoods.

Neighbors say the heavy increase in traffic started about six months ago when Cotswold Terrace was shut down as part of the Urban Loop construction.

Now drivers are cutting through neighborhoods, like Battle Forest, to get from Battleground Avenue to Lawndale Drive.

Kim Barbee lives in Battle Forest. She says it's almost like living on a highway. "It feels like that. It takes away the charm of the neighborhood. It's just, I hate to say it, it's just irritating," says Barbee.

The N.C. Department of Transportation says once the portion of the loop from Battleground Avenue to Lawndale Drive is completed, this should alleviate a lot of this traffic. It's expected to be done in a year and half.
